THE SANCTUARY
A sacred place between sky and stone

Monte d’Accoddi is a prehistoric sanctuary, used between the 4th and 3rd millennium BC, located just a few kilometers from Sassari. The main monument, a stepped altar preceded by a long ramp, is unique in its kind and is part of the Nurra landscape, surrounded by villages, necropolises, and sacred stones.

Visiting Monte d’Accoddi means entering one of the symbolic sites of Sardinian prehistory, where ritual, daily life, and the meeting of different communities have been intertwined for millennia.

The sanctuary is located about 11 km from Sassari, along the road to Porto Torres. It can be reached by car, with access from the parking lot located near the entrance to the archaeological area.

What to see

The archaeological area of Monte d’Accoddi preserves a prehistoric sanctuary unique in Sardinia: the great stepped altar, built between the late Neolithic and the early Copper Age. This structure incorporates an even older temple and is part of a sacred landscape composed of a village, sacrificial stones, menhirs, and hypogeic necropolises (rock-cut tombs). Surrounding the main monument are the spaces once dedicated to rituals, daily activities, and the memory of the deceased, all of which testify to the long occupation of the hill from the 5th to the 3rd millennium BC.

Each stage of the tour guides the visitor through these areas, allowing for a reconstruction of the history of the sanctuary and the communities that created it.
