The artifacts found at the site

The finds uncovered during excavation campaigns conducted starting in the 1950s represent evidence of the phases of life of the sanctuary and of the use of the site.

Among the materials, ceramic containers—either intact or fragmented—are numerous. Other types of finds reveal aspects of life within the sanctuary and the activities connected to it. Tools for spinning and weaving, along with fragments of female figurines in stone and ceramic, recount aspects and rituals linked to cult practices. Weapons and tools made of stone, bone, and copper testify to practices related to daily activities and religious life.

Some of the most significant finds are on display at the National Museum “Giovanni Antonio Sanna” in Sassari, where part of the prehistoric section is dedicated to the Sanctuary.

What are you looking at?

In front of you, you see a copy of an anthropomorphic stele made of trachyte, whose original in granite is preserved at the National Museum “Giovanni Antonio Sanna” in Sassari. On both faces, a schematized female figure is carved in relief: a large round head rests directly on the torso, two protrusions on the chest are interpreted as breasts, and a long central band as a belt, while other appendages are read as arms.

This stele, found lying face down at the spot where you see it today, is dated to the same phase as the second altar. During the excavations, fragments of another stele were also uncovered, with incised spiral decorations and straight lines recalling the eyes and nose of a female figure, coming from the fill material used for the construction of the second altar.
