Due to its distinctive shape, it has often been compared to Mesopotamian ziggurats, even though it was built in a completely Sardinian and pre-Nuragic context. The site demonstrates the ability of Neolithic and Copper Age communities to organize monumental spaces dedicated to worship, collective rites, and the relationship between heaven and earth.
As one archaeologist wrote, places like Monte d’Accoddi remind us that “stones are not just matter, but memory organized in space.”
